So with Nicolas Sparks’ new movie “The Lucky One” and Zac Efron headed to the Big Screen… Let’s Flash Back to the begining of my pal, Bela Vista Grad Nic Sparks career as it relates to what was hittin on the radio!
Remember when Kevin Costner could open a film? He did in February of ’99 with Spark’s first book to film “Message In A Bottle,” as Nicolas and the young Britney Spears were both blowing up. As you drove to the movies, you probably heard “Baby One More Time,” 20 times.
I should probably drop a Mandy Moore song in here…sadly her radio play was over by 2002 when her first starring role hit the big screens “A Walk To Remember,” was Nic’s second film, and Nickelback’s “How You Remind Me,” went #1 the day the film opened.
Just mentioning THE NOTEBOOK will make most well up, tears streaming, as they say “what a great movie.” I’m crying now, just thinking about you crying. Usher wasn’t crying; likely because his song Burn moved to #1 weekend of 6/5/2004 just as The Notebook hit the big screens!
Just mentioning NIGHTS IN RODANTHE makes me cry…thinking of all the times my co anchors said “you’re saying it wrong.” Who would have guessed…Sparks and Britney would have so much in common…kids came along, careers kept cooking and both were #1 weekend of September 21, 2008 as you left the theater talking about how “Dianne Lane is still hot,” you heard “Womanizer!” (That’s pretty much all Britney and Nic have in common…he didn’t go crazy and shave his head that year).
And finally, safe to say Rihanna didn’t see Dear John with Chris Brown (it had been exactly one year). She did however have a hit at the exact same time! Only Girl In The World and “that movie with Channing Tatum” were crushin’ it at the same time. Talk to you next week!
