A theme park in Japan opened an ice skating rink, but this one is just a tad different from all the other ones you know. They included frozen fish beneath the surface.
But yes, water in lakes and backyard garden ponds will freeze with fish beneath the surface, and that seems pretty naturally occurring, so why is this so weird? It’s because the fish were placed IN the ice AS it was freezing. In patterns. Some fish spell out the word “Hello,” and others form the shape of arrows indicating a certain direction to skate. It’s an aquarium-themed park, and the park apparently wanted people to “have a sense of sliding on the sea.”
The fish were already dead before they were placed in the ice, as officials at the park went on to say. The rink was shut down shortly after opening, and after a ton of criticism from protesters saying it’s “cruel and immoral.” The park has apologized, and they’re planning a memorial for sometime after the new year.
