It seems like more offices are doing this, and we’ve even got one here in the Now 100.5 offices. A gift exchange of some sort, whether it’s a Secret Santa style, or a White Elephant (steal or swap gifts from a “pool”). Anyway, it always seems like none of us can figure out what to get, and it usually ends up being a last minute (like, on the way to work that morning) stop-at-some-random-store and grab the first thing you find on a shelf.
Well, we’re here to help you pick something out. Some “experts” were asked what makes the best office/co-worker gift, and they gave their opinion.
Keep it within $15 to $25. That’s easy enough, and usually a rule in the first place. They say that if you’re in charge, or can at least make the suggestion, it should be kept optional. Also, a good idea for a secret santa thing is to send out a question sheet to people so they can list things they like to do, are in to, hobbies, etc. Makes it easy for people to reference.
Some bad gift ideas include the basic coffee mugs, picture frames, scented candles, stuff like that usually ends up straight in the trash or collecting dust.
Gift cards. Those are ok, but as long as they’re good somewhere the receiver is interested in shopping. Not everyone shops at Bed Bath or Home Depot (and that Victoria’s Secret gift card last year was just awkward to receive, Cindy from accounting).
