So, without approval from CA DMV, Uber decided to release one of their self-driving cars. This was a few days ago. On the day of its release, seriously just mere hours after they pressed “go,” the car rand a red light, missing a pedestrian by about 20 feet.
Also, reminder, even when you’re protected to cross as a pedestrian, ALWAYS look before you cross. We see too many people just step into the road without even a slight glance.
Back to topic.
California told Uber to stop deployment of the product. They never got the necessary permits, and until that happens, Uber can’t test their self-driving car here.
They also went on to claim that the do in fact have the proper documents, and that while it was a self-driving capable car that ran the red light, one of their employees was actually driving at the time. Uber has had the service in Pittsburgh for a while, and say they have not had any issues with the cars there. Check out the video below.
