Demi Lovato Criticized After DNA Test

Demi Lovato was curious about her ancestry, so she had a DNA test done so she could get an exact figure on her heritage and ancestry. She wasn’t criticized for having the test done, but she was criticized for how she presented the findings.

She said in a Twitter post that she’s “mainly Spanish, with Native America, SCANDINAVIAN (which I had NO idea), Irish, BRITISH…” and then continued seemingly excitedly, “And I’m 1% African!!!!”

Fans began attack-tweeting Demi, saying things like “ok, did we ask?” and other sarcastic comments, including a Mean Girls quote – “So if you’re from africa…. why are you white,” and a meme saying “Thank you for making that announcement that no one cared about,” and “funny how you’re 85% European but you always act like Europe doesn’t exist.” Ouch.

Demi was just excited to learn about her ancestry, and got some pretty nasty comments, but there were also some positive and supportive comments defending her from the haters, and supporting her excitement for learning about where she came from.
