Uber is working on a handful of self-driving cars to take their passengers around town, and they’ve been testing them for about a month in Arizona; 16 of the cars have been driving around.
This weekend, one of their self-driving test cars was involved in an accident. The Uber car was driving down the road and hit another vehicle that didn’t yield to the Uber vehicle at a left-turn. The Uber car was holding 2 engineers, both in the front seats, and they confirmed that the car was in self-driving mode. No word on the number of passengers in the other cars involved, but there were no injuries reported despite the Uber car turning onto its side.
While it appears that the Uber self-driving car was actually not at fault in this accident, Uber has suspended testing all their cars until they figure out what exactly happened, and what they can change.
