Stars That Turned Down Huge Acting Roles

Can you imagine turning down the role of Rose in Titanic? Or what about as one of the main superheros in the Marvel Franchise?

Some of the most iconic roles in movies didn’t go to the actors the director originally wanted, and we’ve got a list of some of the biggest parts actors didn’t accept (courtesy of TooFab).

Gwyneth Paltrow in Titanic: Paltrow was director James Cameron‘s first choice, but she turned it down and the part eventually went to Kate Winslet.

Julia Roberts in The Blind Side: Roberts wanted to spend more time with her family and turned the part down, allowing Sandra Bullock to snag the role and win herself an Oscar.

John Travolta in Forrest Gump: Travolta turned down one of the most iconic roles of all time (a decision he called one of the biggest mistakes of his career) and allowed Tom Hanks to bring the character to life.

Sarah Michelle Gellar in Clueless: Gellar was forced to turn down the iconic role of Cher in this classic teen film because of scheduling conflicts, which let Alicia Silverstone become one of the biggest stars of the 90s.

Lindsey Lohan in The Hangover: While Lohan was offered the role of the stripper one of the main characters marries during the movie, she felt the movie would be a flop and Heather Graham got the role instead.

Emily Blunt in the Marvel Extended Universe: Black Widow has become one of the most popular characters in the Marvel franchise, largely due to Scarlett Johansson‘s performance. However, the part was initially offered to Blunt for Iron Man 2, who turned it down because of scheduling conflicts.
