The newborn calf, a boy, was born Saturday morning around 10ET (7am our time). It’s April’s 4th baby, but the father’s first. The father, by the way, is named Oliver.
If you’ve been on any sort of social media at any point in the past couple months, you’ve probably seen the live-camera shared several times in one sitting. It’s been a long 15-16 months for April, but it seems like longer than that when a month goes by and we still found ourselves asking “has she done it yet?” Vets weren’t sure when the giraffe was conceived, but knowing that a typical giraffe pregnancy lasts about 15 months, they were able to estimate the “eh, about this date” due-date of baby giraffe.
Baby giraffe, by the way, still doesn’t have a name. They’re taking votes for names online, and you can suggest your own names (cue Giraffey McGiraffeFace). Donations go to a few foundations, including the park where April lives, for improvements. Votes are $1 each, with a minimum of 5.
