Jamie Bunnell, owner of Jamie’s Broadway Grille, passed away over the weekend. The restaurant, located on Broadway and 5th, paid him a special tribute when they took one of his shirts, and hung it above the bar. He was just 58 years old.
Jamie’s wife, Vicki, confirmed the news yesterday, revealing that he had, just a few weeks prior, discovered that he had brain cancer. It was the day after their annual St. Patrick’s Day party, and that’s when he learned about the tumor that had no treatment. Vicki said that Jamie “took the news about his death coming very gracefully, but the idea of him not being able to go back to Jamie’s was very frustrating to him.”
Jamie had been in that spot for 30 years, developing quite the reputation around town for great food, and that was echoed by his restaurant’s many regular customers. Even a local law firm – they credit the restaurant as the starting place for their firm. Mark D. Harrison, of Harrison, Temblador, Hungerford & Johnson said “we actually formed our firm, laid out the business plan and shook hands in the Jamie’s dining room.”
