Not in the same way Kylie Jenner crashed Sac’s own Rio Americano Prom, but they actually crashed the stage and started performing live for the prom.
They were performing in Chicago, and they tweeted out that they crashed a prom that was happening across the street from the venue. In reality it was a couple miles away, but still.
The story behind the event is one of those hard-to-believe-this-actually-still-happens kind of stories. A student from the school sent an email to the band’s manager, presumably asking if the band could perform at the prom since they were playing in town that night. A filmographer called Principal Scott Rowe a couple weeks before prom telling him about the email from the student, and asking if it was a possibility. Approval was granted, and Principal Rowe said “it was probably the toughest secret I’ve ever kept, because I knew the kids were going to go crazy for it.”
The kids certainly did go crazy, but not at first since they didn’t even know what was going on until The Chainsmokers came out from backstage and started playing. Then they swarmed the stage. The band played for about 10 minutes before having to leave and get to the concert.
What a great story, and it must have been a great experience for the students for sure.
