Jimmy Kimmel has been having a stressful past couple weeks, after his second child (with wife Molly, he has 4 kids total) was born. William “Billy” Kimmel, born April 21st. On April 24th though, that’s when things got worrying. He had to have open heart surgery, at just three days old.
Last night on his show, he talked about the situation. William was born, and it was just like any other birth. “Six pushes he was out, he appeared a normal healthy baby,” said Jimmy. But a few hours later, nurses noticed that Billy was a little purple, and they heard a murmur in his heart. He wasn’t getting enough oxygen.
The surgeon said that Billy was born with a hole in the wall between the left and right side of his heart. It will take a total of three surgeries to fix, the second one to happen in three-to-six months from now, the third later in life, and is “non-evasive.”
Jimmy then said “poor kid, not only did he get a bad heart, he got my face.” Always finding a joke to lighten the mood. He also gave an amazing thank-you to his wife, Molly, for being a rock, and for staying calm and getting through this horribly stressful situation.
The surgery was a complete success. Watch his video below, but be sure to grab a box or two of tissues.
Congratulations to Jimmy and Molly, and William too!
