Norovirus Closes Sacramento Schools

It happened Wednesday, students started experiencing the symptoms. Nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps and diarrhea. The school district contacted the health department, something was clearly wrong.

Elverta Elementary, Alpha Middle School, and Alpha Charter High School were all affected by the virus. A total of about 33 students, mostly elementary-aged, plus 5 teachers/administrators from the three schools had the symptoms. The county health department suggested they close the schools, so for yesterday (Thursday, May 4th) and today, the schools are closed, and being “deep-cleaned.” The plan is to re-open for Monday morning.

They say that most norovirus infections, while annoying and, well, messy, only really last for a couple days. It’s spread through water and food, but sometimes can be spread from person to person directly.
