The AMGEN Tour of California begins right here in Sacramento on Sunday, May 14th (which is also Mother’s Day), and we’ve got the best areas for where to watch.
The Start/Finish line is at 11th & L Streets. The tour begins at about 11:25am, and that marks the start of the 104-mile first stage. The course runs across Tower Bridge, then heads down through West Sac towards Ryer Island, near Isleton. It u-turns and heads back up the river into Downtown Sac, after an estimated 4-hours of cycling.
Expect road closures along the route of course, starting Friday with 10th St near the Capitol, and L St. beginning closures on Saturday, with most of the roadways along the course blocked off Sunday during the event.
If you want to watch, some of the best places to watch from are, of course, the finish line, but that’s sure to be packed. Some more spots to check out just below, and a nice little map showing you where they are available here.
Another spot to check out is, well, any corner along the route. You can see the route on the tour’s website here.
Tower Bridge. There are a ton of spots along the river where you can stand and watch, or even spectate along the bridge itself.
Clarksburg. A ton of wineries and lots of space along the river to hang out and watch everyone cycle by.
AMGEN’s official website has a bunch of info about the event.
