Katy Perry is having quite the month. New album coming out, her freshly-announced tour (that you can win tickets to on-air this week, 05-15-17 through 05-19-17), and now she’s about the become the “new” “American Idol’s” first judge.
Says TMZ, Katy Perry is in works to become the first-announced judge of the new “American Idol” which will begin next year (rather than previously guessed Kelly Clarkson, who of course went to The Voice). A source, reported as being “familiar with the negotiations” says that the goal is to announce Katy Perry this week sometime. The other two judges won’t be announced because the show “hasn’t even decided who it wants.”
Problem is, along with the rumors that Ryan Seacrest will be back to host, that American Idol was getting too expensive, which is why the last network bailed on it. Seacrest had a hefty salary, and the judges were all big-names, and also had pretty strong salaries themselves. They’d like to keep costs down, but with Katy and Seacrest coming back (from the looks of it), they’re already going to be spending a decent amount of their budget, so the rumor is that the other two judges won’t be superstars, but rather a songwriter and a producer.
