The San Francisco Dungeon, which is sort of a history museum, but with interactive exhibits and live-actors in character. It’s a sort of creepy, funny, interactive, theater-style attraction. Anyway, they have a coffee shop, and it’s infested with actual, living rats.
The cafe, called “The Black Rat Café,” and it’s opening for the summer. By design, it has a bunch of rats running around. You can order coffee, cake snacks, a few different things, and sit at the bar with a living little furry friend. They’re domestic rats, and they’re said to not carry any disease. They’ve been supplied to the restaurant by Rattie Ratz, which is a San Francisco-local animal charity and rescue foundation.
If you find yourself sipping coffee with a rat you like, you can even adopt it and take it home with you. There’s a process and some paperwork involved, but if you qualify, you can take a new friend home.
It’s “testing” on July 1st and 8th, so if you want to check it out, that’s when you can head out there. Check out more details here, and where to get tickets in.
