Shooting In Virginia – Here’s What We Know

This morning, there was a shooting in Virginia. A gunman fired towards a baseball team made up of Republican GOP members.

Police are calling it a “deliberate attack,” and the shooter has sustained “serious injuries.” The FBI has taken over the scene of the shooting, and have recovered a rifle and a hand gun. There were 5 people in total shot, 2 victims are suffering serious injuries. Steve Scalise is the majority whip of the House of Representatives. He was shot in the hip. He was able to stay low and avoid further injuries while Capitol Hill Police stepped in to locate the shooter. Steve has already been in surgery, is out, and expected to recover.

Texas Representative Roger Williams is one of the coaches on the team, and he said that a member of his staff, legislative correspondent Zack Barth, was shot as well, but is also expected to make a full covery after receiving quick medical care.

Two Capitol Hill Police officers were injured, but are “in good condition and have not suffered any life-threatening injuries at this point,” according to the police chief. They actually went on to take down the shooter even after they were shot themselves.

No word on who the 5th person is who was shot, or if that number includes the shooter. We’ll have more information throughout the day as more details are released.

The baseball event was a practice game for Thursday. It’s a yearly game, made up of various members of congress, and has been a tradition since 1909. No word yet on if the game will play as scheduled, or be postponed.

8:41 Update: We heard through President Trump’s speech that the shooter is dead, and we also heard that the traditional baseball game is still scheduled to continue as normal.

8:47 Update: 4 congressional members were injured, the 5th person injured was, in fact, the shooter, and as we revealed earlier, he has died due to injuries sustained from Capitol Hill police.
