We’ve all heard jokes about people hooking up at weddings, but have you ever wondered if those jokes are based on truth? Have you seen anyone hooking up at a wedding?
It might not be as wild as it appears in a lot of movies, but hookups at weddings do happen, and they happen pretty commonly. In fact, the Communications Manager for popular dating website “Plenty of Fish” Shannon Smith says about weddings, they’re a “great place for singles to mingle.” Weddings are a convenient spot to “hook up” or even begin a new relationship because it’s easy to start a conversation, she says.
The website asked 3,000 users about their wedding habits/observations:
-41% say they had too much to drink, which lead to having conversations with others
-20% of those conversations ended with a hookup
-16% wound up staying with that person for a relationship
-10% of the respondents admitted to “crashing” a wedding, as in attending despite not knowing anyone there
We’re rather surprised that a majority of the hookups ended with the people entering a relationship. Hey, that’s pretty cool! Is marriage contagious?
