To get a glimpse of what artists go through before they make it big, Jamie Foxx just told a story about how Ed Sheeran stayed on his couch for 6 weeks while he was trying to get his music career started.
While on the Graham Norton show in the UK, Jamie Foxx was recounting a story about how he and Ed Sheeran met. Jamie was hosting a music show in LA, when Ed Sheeran contacted him. Ed says he was trying to get his music heard, and was trying to get Jamie to listen to it. Jamie heard a bit, invited Ed to his home studio to listen to some more, and really loved it. Jamie has been known to support new artists, but in this case it wound up being what got Ed signed.
Jamie let Ed crash on his couch for about 6 weeks. He gave him food, shelter, advice, and got Ed into a local venue. Jamie says that Ed didn’t exactly blend-in at this music event, but after 12 minutes of playing, he got a standing ovation, and eventually Ed was signed to Atlantic Records, possibly thanks to Jamie Foxx, and even recorded some songs from his first album there at Jamie’s house.
Here’s the video of Jamie telling the story:
