California is prone to wildfires, especially during the summer months, and at any given time there are probably a couple fires burning somewhere in the state. We’ve seen our share of super-destructive fires over the past few years, and southern California isn’t any more immune than northern California, and neither are celebrities.
You rarely hear about a celebrity’s home burning down, but unfortunately for Johnny Galecki, who plays Leonard on The Big Bang Theory, he lost his southern California ranch in the recent fire, dubbed “The Hill Fire.” He lives about 190 miles outside of L.A. in San Luis Obispo, which is where the fire is consuming about 1,500 acres. About 250 people in the area were evacuated because of the fire, which would have included Johnny, but he was already away from the area in Chicago. His house was completely leveled due to the blaze, and he’s planning on returning to recover anything he can once the roads open up.
Johnny says “My heart goes out to all in the area who are also experiencing loss from this vicious fire, the threat of which we live with constantly, which may seem crazy to some but we do so because living in our beautiful, rural area makes it worthwhile. It’s never the structures that create a community — it’s the people. And if the people of Santa Margarita have taught me anything it’s that, once the smoke has cleared, literally and figuratively, it’s a time to reach out and rebuild. We’ve done it before, and will need to do it together again, and it will make our community even closer and stronger. Endless thanks to CalFire and the Sheriff’s Office. I know you guys are fighting the good fight to keep us safe. So very relieved no one has been hurt.”
