The families of Bella Herndon and Priscilla Chui are blaming the hit Netflix series “13 Reasons Why” for the death of their daughters.
The two girls from the Bay Area didn’t know each other and went to different high schools but both 15 year olds died by hanging according to Fox LA. According to the families, they committed suicide days after watching 13 Reasons and are begging Netflix to cancel the second season of the series. If you haven’t seen the show, it’s about a girl in high school who takes her own life and records 13 tapes that are released after her death. The tapes explain very vividly who and what caused her to take her own life. There are many scenes in the show that are extremely graphic.
Netflix did release a statement,
“Our hearts go out to these families during this difficult time. We have heard from many viewers that ’13 Reasons Why’ has opened up a dialogue among parents, teens, schools and mental health advocates around the difficult topics depicted in the show. We took extra precautions to alert viewers to the nature of the content and created a global website to help people find local mental health resources.”
