Roberto Hategan is barely 16. He doesn’t even have a driver’s license yet, but he’s signed with Sacramento’s Republic FC Soccer team. He’s the youngest ever to sign with the team, and even had to have his parents sign the contract with him, since he’s under 18, to make it official.
He grew up in Roseville, and apparently really took to soccer. Like, really took to the game. He already excelled at the Republic’s Academy teams, and has played internationally in several countries. He joked that he was born ready to go by saying “I came out of the womb with a soccer ball.” It’s obviously a passion, and he’s obviously very good at what he does. He signed a 2-year contract with a club option for 2019. We think he’ll do very well.
Roberto’s father played professionally as well, signing when he was just 15, a year ahead of himself.
Roberto’s first game was this past Saturday, and it resulted in a tie, but there are still a ton of games left in the season, so we’ll see some high numbers soon, and we’ll have to get out to some games too!
