By “best Prime day ever,” we mean for them. Sales were up by 60% compared to last year, they had 50% more visitors, and more people signed up for Amazon Prime in just the one day than any other day since they started offering Prime. Their stock even jumped $11, breaking the $1,000 per share mark.
Something interesting to note, July is typically one of the worst months for brick & mortar stores, traditionally, but it’s quickly becoming one of the best months for online sales.
What was the top-selling thing for Prime Day on July 11th? Amazon’s own Echo, the digital assistant for your home. You know, “Alexa, order me more batteries.” That thing. The thing that will order your daughter a new doll house because she asked it to play with her (I think they actually fixed that glitch though).
Actually that was the top seller at the start of the day; it was beat out by the smaller version, “Echo Dot.” That one can be used as a stand-alone device, or in addition to the regular Echo so you have Alexa in multiple rooms. Anyway, the Echo Dot won the day, coming in the number 1 spot for number of purchases.
Some of the other popular picks on Prime Day were the 23andMe DNA testing kit, and bluetooth headphones.
