Not just your family (for obvious reasons), but you specifically.
Sex can actually keep you young, so-to-speak. The work into these findings was completed in San Francisco at UC Berkeley, so chalk up one more for NorCal. Hooray! Anyway, they looked at the “telomeres” in 129 mothers. Telomeres are “DNA protectors,” and they naturally shorten (basically break off) over time as we age. The shorter they are, the more likely we are to develop some sort of degenerative diseases.
So, after looking at the telomeres of all these mothers and learning about their lifestyle, they found that the women who reported having sex at least once a week had significantly longer telomeres than those who had less sex. They were able to conclude that, yes, sex keeps you in good health, and will help you live longer.
Coffee, according to the Annals of Internal Medicine (two “Ns”) has been shown to help extend your life too, so that means that when people say coffee is “just as good as sex,” well, that’s not untrue.
