Katy Perry said yesterday that she’s planning to be more of a Simon Cowell-style judge. She says “I really respect him. As much as people said, ‘oh, he’s grumpy or he’s mean,’ he was just truthful, you know?” She added that she’s not judging to “win the popular race,” but just to find the next star, and make someone’s dreams come true.
About auditioning, she says that contestants would be “advantageous” if they were to sing one of her own songs as their choice. She even says it’s difficult for her to hit some of those high notes, adding that she has to “squeeze both of my butt-cheeks to hit all those notes” in the song “Firework.”
American Idol auditions have already started, and they still haven’t announced any judges besides Katy Perry. She says she’d pick Lionel Richie if it were up to her though, because she says he’s “an icon.” She also went on to say someone like Charlie Puth would be good too, because he’s more on the “fresh” side of the business.
