It’s one of those questions that you just don’t ask someone you’re currently with, because, well, it doesn’t matter for one thing, and for another thing, nobody really ever tells the real number anyway.
But after asking about 2,000 people that specific question, “how many sexual partners have you had in your life,” they got some answers. They’re still not sure they can trust the answers, but we put the numbers together anyway.
The average number reported by Americans who responded to the question: 7.
The average number reported by Europeans who responded to the question: 6.
To break it down by state? South Carolina, Nebraska, Oklahoma, places like that, the average was 10 partners. Mississippi, Kansas, West Virginia, 5 or less. Utah scored the lowest with 2.6 partners per person. We’re still trying to figure out that “.6” though.
How much was too much? Americans say that less than 2 is “too little,” but if you’ve got more than 15 under your belt, you’re “promiscuous.”
