Anthony Bourdain Releases Trailer For ‘WASTED!’ [WATCH]

One of America’s most well-known celebrity chefs is tackling one of the modern era’s biggest issues: food waste.

In Anthony Bourdain’s documentary, entitled WASTED! The Story of Food Waste, he delves deeper into the alarming estimated 1.3 billion metric tons of food thrown away yearly. The Thrillist’s research reports: “According to a 2014 study from the EPA, 20% of the garbage thrown into all municipal landfills in America is comprised of food waste. The United States is the food waste leader, with some studies concluding that half of all produce in the country is discarded instead of consumed.”

Instead of going for a more alarmist take on food waste, however, Bourdain is opting to take a more optimistic tone in WASTED!

Bourdain visits chefs and shows how they use every last scrap of food in the kitchen. He said:

“As a young cook, I came up in an old school system… use everything, waste nothing.

As a traveler, I see again and again how circumstances force people to cook incredibly well with the often very little food available to them.”

WASTED! is set for theatrical and on-demand release Oct. 13.
