Houston has been devastated by flooding, forcing mass evacuations, and destroying many people’s homes. School in the Houston Independent School District has been on hold, but once it resumes, students will be provided their meals completely for free for the rest of the school year.
The school district announced on Wednesday (August 30th) that they “got the green light” from the United States Department of Agriculture and the Texas Department of Agriculture to let all students in the district participate in the National School Lunch and Breakfast program. That makes sense, a lot of families have taken a hard hit financially, especially since many homes didn’t have flood insurance, and having to pay for school lunch, a necessary item, is just something else for them to worry about. That burden is now lifted for those families.
