A woman in Miami was due to have her baby. But the problem was, it was on the same day the hurricane, named Irma, was crashing through the southern tip of Florida.
She called 911 to try and get either a transport to a hospital, or to have rescue crews come to her, but instead of having assistance show up, she had assistance on the phone. She was connected with some doctors who were able to talk her through the birth process, all the way down to tying off the umbilical cord.
The city says that they have been having to respond to calls on a case-by-case basis, just because of the number of people who require assistance, but the mom and new baby, a girl, were transported to the hospital the next morning. We’re not actually sure what the baby’s name is, but Irma is probably an option.
